HEAT PUMP

Heat pumps are most effective in warm climates with less severe winters. The main difference between air conditioners and heat pumps is that air conditioners only work one way (moving heat from indoors to outdoors) while heat pumps can work in both directions. This means heat pumps can keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Unlike an air conditioner, a heat pump is designed with a reversing valve that can automatically change the direction of the refrigerant flow. When the reversing valve flips to the heat mode, the refrigerant becomes cold enough in the outdoor coil to absorb heat from the outside air. This is opposite from the cooling mode when heat is absorbed from the indoor air by the indoor coil.
